G-8000-1 G-Shock Video Review

Posted the 25th day of October in 2009 by Riley.

Truthaboutwatches has made this video review of the G-8000-1 G-Shock. This model hasn't really ever gotten much love. It has a sort of a futuristic look to it. You can pick one of these up online for about $50 USD, so for that price you can't expect too much.

Here's a video of the G-8000-4 for comparison. This display is pretty disappointing on this model in my opinion.

Here's a video of the flashing light alarm in action on the G-8000-1A G-Shock. That's one feature that sets these models apart from most G-Shocks.

Video #1: Usual G-Shock's have a 12h Countdown Timer? A 24h CDT is actually usual. Some G_Lides and Solar Atomic models often have a 60 minute CDT. I do not know a model with a 12 hour CDT.

Video #2: Time Calibration. The watch looks better in real than in the video.

I think the G-8000 doesn't really look bad. Alright, he G-8100 does look pretty odd, but I don't have a problem with my G-8000's.

I guess he got mixed up with some other watches. Because you're right Sjors, I've never heard of 12 hour timer on a G-Shock.

I have an orange G-8000-4 and the display looks horrible to me. It's barely legible in the best of lighting. Probably my biggest disappointment in a G-Shock.

I should dig mine out of the pile. It's been a long time I wore it. I can't remember if the display is that horrible. I love to work in an dark enviroment, so my fingers know their way to the EL button. What I do remember is that I found the display pretty distracting. I had to look several times to see what time it was. Also does the regular -1V version have a very sharp display. There seem to be much difference between a normal and a reversed display. Maybe a good subject for a future 50Gs article. First a little party in Spain ;-)

    Cheers,

Mine might not worse than some others, but it looks pretty much like it does in that video. It's a pretty substantial difference in quality compared to my other negative display ones. I want to swap out the module with the one from a G-8000B-4 to make it super orange.

Casio used the cheapest grade of display filter with low contrast, hence the very subdued display.

Also they claim in that video that it is the model GW-8000 and that it has time calibration. No such model exist, its the G-8000 with no atomic sync function.

Im not to found of the G-8000 series…
