A new addition to the Casio Edifice has been announced at BASELWORLD 2010. The new EQW-M1100DB is an atomic solar chronograph model that comes on a metal bracelet. The dial on this watch looks sporty and fast, so it's a good match for the Red Bull Racing team sponsorship.

Dual Layers and Disk Indicator Create Multi-Dimensional Feel

BASEL, March 18, 2010 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today the release of the EQW-M1100, another new addition to the Edifice line of analog watches with metal cases. The dynamic new watch is equipped with a 1/1000-second stopwatch and exciting disk-shaped indicators that show time measurement results.

Capturing the essence of speed and intelligence, Edifice analog metal watches evoke a sense of velocity and motor sports energy with the movement of the hands and distinctive face of the watch. Edifice watches are especially popular with motor sport fans, thanks to their rich stopwatch functions and standout face designs.

The new EQW-M1100 boasts a stopwatch which displays time elapsed using a smart combination of the second hand and motorized disk-shaped indicators. The disk-shaped indicator at the 9-o’clock position rotates forwards and backwards and, when time measurement is stopped, alternates between displaying the 1/1000th value and the 1/100th value. This cutting-edge capability combines with the dynamic face design to underscore the sense of motor sports velocity that comes with every Edifice.

The EQW-M1100 also features a dual-layer face; part of the upper surface of the face is dramatically cut away to reveal a lower level with a different look. This emphasizes the multi-dimensional feeling of the face, and highlights the active functionality that is Edifice.

The two disk-shaped indicators, each positioned within a small circular dial, are positioned at 9-o’clock and 4-o’clock and are designed to look like car brake discs. The mechanical look of the design is enhanced by the four screws placed around the bezel. The watch also features large buttons with button guards to prevent any damage or operation errors due to impact from dropping.

The new Edifice is also packed with a full range of functions, including world time and Casio’s Tough Solar system, which can generate power from both sunlight and fluorescent light. It also uses radio-controlled technology to ensure precise timekeeping, and can receive standard radio waves from six transmitters around the world (two in Japan, and one each in Germany, the UK, the US, and China).

In 2009, Casio signed a sponsorship agreement with the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team, a dynamic team of drivers who are ideal brand ambassadors for the Edifice concept. Casio will continue its role as a team partner of Red Bull Racing in 2010, and various sales promotion activities leveraging the sponsorship are in the works.
