Casio Introduces G-Shock Watches Resistant to Centrifugal Gravitational Force*
Shock-resistant pilot’s watches

BASEL, March 18, 2010 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today the release of three new G-Shock Gravity Defier watches. Based on an aviator concept, the new shock-resistant watches offer performance that can withstand strong centrifugal gravitational force.

In addition to unique shock and vibration resistance of G-Shock, the new Gravity Defier watches feature resistance to centrifugal gravitational force, which thoroughly increases their practicality for aviators. These G-Shock models are resistant to centrifugal gravitational force to a level that greatly exceeds that required for flight data recorders and cockpit voice recorders (up to 15 Gs) using the steady-state acceleration test stipulated by the ISO 2669 Environmental Tests for Aircraft Equipment.

The watch face of the new models features a cockpit gauge design. In addition to the large face, a large index and bold numerals are used so that a pilot can read the watch in an instant even in a tight turn. By executing the 3-o’clock and 6-o’clock inset dials in two tiers, and the 9-o’clock inset dial in three, Casio increased watch face readability while giving the face design a textured look. The new watches also boast a urethane bezel on the top-most surface, in order to protect the gauges or the canopy inside the cockpit from damage caused by accidentally bumping the watch. The large buttons offer better operability, while button guards prevent operation errors or damage.

The new watches also feature Tough Movement**, which is the key component in Casio’s radio-controlled watch technology, further enhancing reliability. The new models have the detailed specifications that pilots are looking for, including construction, design, and function.

Last year, Casio’s G-Shock brand became an Official Team Supporter for the Red Bull Air Race World Championship, an international series of air races which brings world-class race pilots together in a global competition based on speed and skill. Casio will continue to support the Red Bull Air Race World Championship in 2010.

* Resistance to centrifugal gravitational force: The performance to withstand the outward force (centrifugal gravitational force) on an object created when it is rotated, a force which is proportional to the object’s mass.

** Tough Movement: A slim, high-performance, radio-controlled solar-powered movement that has four vital functions: Multi-Band 6 technology for receiving time-calibration signals transmitted over wide areas from six stations in the world (two in Japan, and one each in the US, the UK, Germany, and China); high-capacity solar power system operation; hybrid mount construction for added shock resistance; and an auto hand home position correction that returns hands to their proper position automatically if they slip out of place..
