A prototype GXW-56 G-Shock has been spotted at BASELWORLD 2010. It looks like Casio has done some crazy things to the classic 5600 design. There's new large rubberized buttons and a new caseback that are both reminiscent of the G-9000 Mudman. Inside this watch is a brand new 3220 module. It's Multiband 6 atomic, and there's a "Shock Absorber" band running across the middle of the LCD. The other notable difference is the lack of springbars. They have been replaced with screws like the Gulfman, Mudman or Riseman. This new look is sure to bring mixed opinions.

It looks like this one might be a monster compared to the size of the original DW-5600. It could be more like a DW-5300 on the wrist.
Thanks Valaker.
I like it. A bit extreme - but why not? The 5600 will always be there for those who don't want to deviate from the original design. This one looks like the 5600 on steroids!
Welcome caracoleo.
This one is crazy. I think it will be more dramatic as we see more of it. Also, I'm not 100% on the model number, and it could very well change.
I wasn't really sure at first, but I'm starting to warm up to this G. An all black stealthy one would be awesome.
I think a stealth version would be fantastic too, In fact it would go on the list to obtain without hesitation.
Welcome wearetheunknown.
Casio is doing some great work lately. I'm hoping there will be plenty of color variations for all these new models. Something for everyone.
NNNEEEEEDDD!!!
Overnight me a stealth one, please!
If this is only in prototype form does it mean it will make it to production or is there a chance that it won't?
I think it looks good - the bulkier the better
We won't know for sure that this watch will be produced until Casio announces it officially. But I'd say the fast that they are showing it off at BASELWORLD is a good sign. It might be over 6 months though until we see it again.
It's a good idea to toughen up the classic 5600 design, but IMHO, this prototype is definitely a no-no.
The enlargement of the bezel is mainly on the side buttons, but the buttons are too big. Also the red color scheme is REALLY disgusting.
The center "shock absorb" bar also appears to be more of a gimmick.
As for the module, well… these years Casio has been over-emphasizing on the atomic reception and solar power features, while omitting certain things from the typical feature set. This is no good.
For example, I want a 100h stopwatch with auto-start and a 24h timer with auto-repeat function. NONE of the current solar or/and atomic modules have just that. Maybe Casio has a problem retaining certain functions because those functions are over-draining the solar battery? (And if Casio doesn't retain these features in the future, that means I'll have no choice but to stay away from all future solar/atomic modules.)
Cool design, i would say it's an upgrade for the classic 5600. It really does toughen up the look!
In terms of looks, DW 5600MS-1 vs this model. Which one do u guys think is more rugged?
Welcome MK18.
You could argue that the over-sized resin parts on this new model would make it tougher, but any G-Shock is rated to the same tough standards. A higher bezel does offer more scratch protection for the mineral crystal though.
Agreed. Hope they will launch this model, on a side note i just got my DW5600MS-1. AWESOME! Just couldn't get my hands off it!!
