Casio America has officially announced that the new "King of G-Shock" GX56-1A and GX56-4 models will be released in the US market. These G-Shocks have the largest cases ever. There's also some new design elements inside the case that have lead to increased toughness and shock protection thanks to materials like aGEL (aka alpha gel). Both have a retail price of $150 USD. Take a look at the photos from the NYC event to see if these should be added to your wishlist.

The Next Level in Shock Resistance and Ultimate Toughness

New York, NY, August 2, 2010 — Proudly crowning a new king, Casio America Inc. boldly debuts the G-Shock Ultimate Tough GX56. This latest edition to the G-Shock family seamlessly combines advanced technologies and the latest shock resistant construction. Majestic in size, the GX56 is the largest case design (55.5mm x 53.6mm x 17.5mm) in G-Shock history, nearly two times (2x) larger in volume than the classic DW5600.

Self-Charging, Tough Solar Power - A tiny, solar panel combined with a large-capacity rechargeable battery enables a variety of energy-hungry functions to operate smoothly. The result is an impressive solar timepiece that assures reliable timekeeping and greatly reduces the need for battery change.

"G-Shock is thrilled to offer this new level of shock resistance and technically advanced features in a lightweight functional timepiece,” said Shigenori Itoh, Vice President of Casio's Timepiece Division. With its fashion-forward large case, the Ultimate Tough GX56 truly continues the G-Shock Tradition of Toughness and Technology."

Additional GX56 features include: Mud Resistance, Auto EL Backlight, World Time (31TZ/48 City + UTC), 4 Daily Alarms and 1 Snooze Alarm, Hourly Time Signal, 1/100th Sec. Stopwatch, Countdown Timer, 12/24 Hr. Formats, and Mineral Glass face for increased scratch resistance.

Available in heritage black (GX56-1A) and hazard orange (GX56-4) for $150 at select Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Tourneau and other fashion boutiques and www.gshock.com.

Any word on if an Atomic version is US-bound, Riley?

There hasn't been any news of the atomic GXW-56 models coming to the US. And at this point it looks doubtful that it will ever happen. It's too bad. I was hoping for a cheaper alternative that still had all the features.

That makes two of us. At least I'll get a chance to try this one on now. I don't think I'd buy it without seeing how it fits. The thing is a monster!

    Thanks for the updates, Riley!

I just got my GXW-56. It's really huge! I like it very much. It is so big, it even looks a bit funny toyish, but I like a bit fun in my watches. Why would I else have ended up with G-Shock's ;-)

    Looks great Sjors. :-!

I think you really need to check this G out in person to understand just how big and orange it really is.

I havent purchased a G-Shock in a while but the GX-56 will be my next watch.

I just got my Atomic GXW-56 Orange colour two weeks ago and it's awesome. The best part is the watch is Made In Japan just like Frogman.

i have the orange one and it is awesome! never fails to turn heads. hahaha. im hoping these King G-Shocks will have more colors to come!

    ^ ^^ Yep me too.

Can someone give me a link where I may purchase the Atomic GX56 at the best price? I hear they are double the price of the non-atomic versions…yikes!
