New Yellow DW-8250 Frogman G-Shock

Posted the 3rd day of August in 2010 by Riley.

The Shock The World event was in NYC on Monday night, and there was a bunch of new G-Shocks on display. One was a big surprise. It's a bright yellow atomic Frogman that's a tribute to the classic DW-8200 series design. The polished metal around the face looks great with the yellow resin. There's not much in the way of details on this new G-Shock watch at this time. The DW-8250 model number on the sign does seems kind of strange for what looks to be a GWF-1000 variant. We'll see what happens with this one.

What's this?
A Yellow Atomic DW-8250 Frogman (maybe GWF-1000-9JF?)

The venerable "Men In Yellow" DW-8250Y-9T Frogman from 1998

Nice variant which looks a bit more subtle with the smaller stainless steel pushers - most noticeably on the right hand side of the watch. Yellow is a great color, white would also work well. I would really like to see a master blue version though.

No mention of atomic multi-band 6 timekeeping on the watch face but I presume it is? In addition, is the bezel titanium and also does in benefit from the expensive DLC coating on the buttons and the case back?

As always with the latest froggies the killer will be the price. Titanium will add cost but not being DLC coated will claw a fair bit of that back. Hopefully not as expensive as the new jelly red collaboration!!

This watch looks to be a prototype, so it's hard to say for sure. It obviously has the tide graph, but I suppose Casio could start making a non-atomic Frogman series (GF-1000?). I guess we'll have to wait until Casio officially announces it to see what the final design will be for it.

I think non atomic versions are a good idea for parts of the world that don't get the signal (Australia for instance). Mudman and Riseman have non atomic versions so that would be a normal move by Casio anyway.

They should be cheaper as well which will be a good thing as the GWF-1000 range is pricy due to limited edition status etc.
