A Closer Look at the GD100 Series G-Shocks

Posted the 10th day of August in 2010 by Riley.

Here's some photos of the two new GD100 G-Shocks that are due to be released soon. These watches feature a high-brightness LED backlight. They have a different look and Casio seems to trying out some new display technology with these. You have your choice of stealthy all black GD-100-1B with negative LCD, or the standard GD-100-1A with a regular high contrast display and a bit more color. It's rated to last 7 years on one standard CR2025 battery, so it's obviously a very power-efficient design. The release date is set for September 30th in Japan, and soon after that elsewhere.

    Hi Riley,

Somehow these are not really appealing for me (yet?), but I noticed similar design similarities as on the GA-110 models. What's the size of these. Are they as big as the GA-100 and GA-110?

As these were on display at an STW event… I noticed a fingerprint on the display. Ay ay, if I had made that display, I would have been quite ashamed :-)

    Cheers,

    Sjors

I'd like to see these in some more colors. I thought these were nice, but they didn't look too exciting. The new module and LED might offer something better though. They are big, but maybe a little smaller than the GA-100s. It was hard to really check them out and compare them in these glass cases.

Riley, did you get to see the LED backlight in action? Any word on what color it is and if it's significantly more readable than the current EL backlight?

Casio has them locked up in the display case, so I couldn't play with the backlight. I think they did show it in the presentation at the NYC Shock The World event. You can see it in the videos I posted. It would be in one of the sections they talk about new G-Shocks.

Woooaah!!! Riley, Casio finally put some LED on the new G? I love it! Can't wait to see it when it launched. Looks like it using the same GA-100 series chassis.

I love it!! Exactly what I have been wanting! I love the GA-100 case and resin and can't wait for the release!! I like it much better than the GWX-56 series that just came out! Grand Slam Casio!!
