How to change a Casio G-Shock Watch Battery

Here's a great guide on how to change a G-Shock battery:

Sjors also put together this great video tutorial showing how to change out a G-Shock battery:

It's not too hard to do it yourself. Just be careful, and use the proper tools.

Here's a bunch more posts with details on changing the batteries:

Always Lubricate the Gasket When Opening a G-Shock Case

To keep the G-Shock waterproof you should always lubricate the rubber gasket with silicone grease. If the gasket has deteriorated in some way from age then you need to replace it with a new one.

How do you change a battery in an old G-Shock like the DW-5200 that has various age-related issues?

Go ahead and use the CR2016 battery instead of the original CR2320 one. I've been using them for years in place of the 2320, when I couldn't get the 2320, and have not had a problem.

Don't remove the battery gasket unless you really need to as they're a pain to reinstall. You have to kinda fit it around these little metal tabs and....geez, it's just not worth it. Not really sure why you want to remove it. I guess if it's got battery acid on it (but then you'd have a larger problem).

FYI - The main difference (only difference, as far as I know) between the module 691 and 901 is that they take different batteries - the 901, which takes the smaller 2016, just has a thicker gasket.

If the bleeding has disappeared be aware that it can come back. That's happened to me on other modules. Unless you just have a burning need to remove those bezel screws you can simply break off the old bezel and installl the new over them. Works like a charm, just ream out the holes a bit on the new bezel.

Cheers, Greg (aka casiophile)

Solar Charging Batteries

Hack: Manually Charge the CTL 1616 battery

For all of you who left the Casio PRG series watch without light for 6 month and now it doesn’t work, there is no need to buy a new CTL1616 battery. Just take the battery out of the watch and charge it with 1-2ma for 12 hours, put it back and reset the watch (by connecting with a wire the (AC) point to the (-) point for two second, and .. WOW, the watch works again like new.

Charging the battery is very simple. Buy a 4700 ohm or 5600 ohm resistor in your local electronics shop. Take a voltage source of 9 or 12 volts (can be a battery or AC adapter). connect the (+) of the voltage source to one side of the resistor, and the other side of the resistor to the (+) side of the battery (it is marked in the battery). Using a copper wire, connect the (-) side of the voltage source to the (-) side of the battery, and leave it connected for 12 hours or so. After that, return the battery to the watch and reset the watch (by connecting with a copper wire the (AC) point to the (-) point for two second) That it, very simple. Good luck, Amihai

Use the Duracell Battery Finder Tool
